Master Michael Reeser has dedicated his life to martial arts, personal development, and teaching. His journey began in childhood, with formal training starting in 1996 under Sensei Ken Messner at American Thunder Martial Arts in New Holland, PA. There, he built a strong foundation in Moo Duk Kwan, competed in national tournaments, and wrestled at the collegiate level.
After earning his first black belt, Michael trained under Grand Master Miguel DeJesus at MAD Dragons, competing in full-contact kickboxing and MMA. His martial arts path took a pivotal turn when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he achieved a black belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) while deployed to Afghanistan. His service also provided a rare opportunity to train at a traditional Moo Duk Kwan academy in South Korea.
After leaving the Marines, Michael continued his martial arts journey, training under multiple Masters and Grandmasters in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Krav Maga, Tae Kwon Do, and passive control techniques in SCM (Safe Crisis Management). His real-world experience in security and juvenile treatment facilities further deepened his expertise in self-defense, de-escalation, and crisis management.
In 2010, Michael returned to American Thunder to earn his 2nd Dan Black Belt before the school’s closure in 2012. Committed to teaching, he founded Freedom Martial Arts and later joined the Martial Arts Fellowship, earning his 3rd, 4th, and 5th Dan Black Belts under Grand Master Riehl.
Seeking to refine his skills, Michael trained in Thailand for three weeks, immersing himself in traditional Muay Thai with experienced Thai fighters. This experience further enhanced his striking efficiency, clinch work, and fight endurance, which he integrates into his teaching.
Beyond martial arts, Michael holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology specializing in Child and Adolescent Development. His curriculum is shaped by his expertise in juvenile justice, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based learning, ensuring that students build confidence, character, and discipline in a supportive environment.
Master Michael Reeser continues to evolve as both a martial artist and instructor, blending traditional martial arts wisdom with modern training methodologies to empower students of all backgrounds and abilities.
